Camping La Tamarissière

Looking for a camping holiday at La Tamarissière? Our Cap d’Agde campsite welcomes you just 4km from the La Tamarissière district of Agde in Languedoc-Roussillon!

Discover the La Tamarissière district near the campsite

A charming seaside destination, Agatha’s Tamarissière district is famous for the privileged environment of its two-hundred-year-old pine forest. Created at the end of the 18th century to combat silting at the mouth of the river, the Tamarissière pinewood is today a privileged setting for walks, horseback rides or bike rides with your feet in the water, ideal for family vacations or just relaxing. An exceptional, listed natural heritage, this pine forest is home to a wealth of flora and fauna, and is criss-crossed by signposted trails. If you’re staying at camping La Tamarissière, you’ll certainly want to head for the sandy beach of La Tamarissière, which is also popular for its peace and quiet, and is very close to your mobile home or motorhome. This is, of course, the wildest part of Agde, bordered by forest.

What to see when camping at La Tamarissière

A strategic zone on the Mediterranean Wall, La Tamarissière is home to a World War II bunker: built by the Germans at the center of a fortified complex comprising two defense batteries, bunker 638 was a 100 m2 military infirmary. A tour of the site reveals the specific technical features of German bunker construction. A comprehensive museography also reveals the daily life of the people of Agatha during the war, and the organization of the local resistance. The only bunker open to visitors in the Mediterranean, bunker 638 opens its doors free of charge every Saturday morning, all year round. In this must-see site during your La Tamarissière camping vacation, you’ll discover 9 rooms used to hospitalize and treat soldiers wounded during attacks.

Getting to La Tamarissière from the campsite

On the other side of the river, opposite Grau d’Agde, La Tamarissière is easily reached from the Les Champs Blancs campsite by crossing the bridge over the Hérault, then heading south along the right bank. Less than 10 minutes by car. By bike, you can cross the bridge over the old town of Agde, or take the “bateau-passeur” linking the port of Grau d’Agde to La Tamarissière: an opportunity to combine business with pleasure during your vacation on the coast!
